A road trip with kids can be fun. Once you have played the alphabet game, and “I Spy,” and are just headed out of town, you wonder what you will do to keep the kids entertained.
One thing that helps make happy kids (and a happy road trip) is reading to my kids. We have three boys all under 10 years old. I love to read chapter books to them. There are some books that I have read myself, and I thought, “man, my kids would love this,” but then they were not the best when I tried to read them out loud.
So, here is a fun-to-read-on-a-road-trip book list that I will be adding to (and hope that you will too).
- The Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo
- Soup by Robert Newton Peck
- Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
- A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck
- The View from Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg
- A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI liked Desperaux too. It was fun to read out loud–especially the parts where I got to do my French accent. =)
